Baja Bash with the North Yorkshire Bashers!
On the 1st June 2012 NYB hosted their first big event which attracted drivers from all over the UK from the North East of England, Scotland and the North West. Over the last year and a half we have developed a friendship with the Kendal bashers who are well renowned for their bash events at Kendal and who recently qualified for the European finals in Austria in September of this year.
The guys from Kendal are of a serious race pedigree and are an absolute treat to watch when their HPI Baja's are powering around the circuit, of course, we have our own dedicated race pedigree, Neil Griffin the track owner and Chris Dobson a relative 'newbee' have a serious talent for negotiating around the new track layout. NYB actually qualified 3rd over all during the time event at Kendal.
The usual weather issues!
As with most of these events the weather played a major part in the 40 or so drivers that attended, driving abilities. As we have an all grass track the rain and the morning dew made the Baja's really work hard to maintain grip. Lots adjustment of suspensions and the tyres choice of the day mostly fell onto the HPI Dirtbuster stock tyres... Amongst the frustrated, where the ones who really enjoyed the challenge of maintaining grip, lots of sliding and donuts where the order of the day...But that thirst for racing came through on many occasions, either on the oval track, the drag strip or the main track.
Friday and Saturday saw the arrival of many of the weekend campers, lots of people bashing and the selected few racing around the track, followed by a few lubricants around the fire on the night time.
Sunday was as usual the day when everyone was out on the track, it was absolutely epic to watch so many cars on the track jumping and landing together, or on top of each other, it was an ideal time to catch the cars in their full glory with some crackin photo's of mid air flight and cornering shots.
Great fun for everybody!
In all, the event was a resounding success. The support from all the drivers and their families that attended and the support from our various sponsors, including HPI Europe, allowed for a donation to be made from the raffle to the Help for Heroes charity.
Thanks for the Support
Without the support of the drivers and our sponsors, events like this are never as successful so to that end we would like to thank all the HPI Baja enthusiasts who attended and of course HPI Europe and other sponsors for their welcomed support.
NYB hold at least 1 bash every month at our Pickering track. We are aiming to host the Big Event 2 in late September, (hopefully the weather will be much better by then). All drivers are welcome no matter what you drive.
