Coventry Summer Series Rd2
Report By Ben Cosgrove
Coventry Model Car Club hosted the second round of the summer series on fathers day the 17th June. The weather was very poor the whole week leading up to the meeting and in accordance with BRCA rules the dirt track was both waterlogged and closed. We were forced into using the Astro turf track which has many good features and lots of layout options.
Perfectly handling Trophy Buggy Flux!
We went straight into the 4 rounds of qualifying and from the first lap the Trophy Buggy Flux was handling flawlessly in the wet conditions. I was able to clear the jumps like it was dry and had a very nice balance that allowed me to push very hard and controlled.
I managed to TQ all 4 rounds of qualifying with times up to a lap clear of the Nitro runners behind me. For the last round of qualifying I gambled on taking off the Spirals for mini pins. For the warm up it looked promising but then we had an extreme shower covering the drivers and the track in seconds with a lot of water. Somehow even on mini pins I managed to take the win in the round just a couple of tenths up on second place.
The final was a 15 minute race and things went really well for 11 minutes until my car stopped. I checked the electrics and found that I had got a stone stuck in my ESC fan which caused a thermal shutdown. This was a great shame as I was very comfortably leading and was looking good for a solid result. Even with my failure I still managed to take the Electric Rallycross victory.
Warming up for the Electric National
The Trophy Buggy Flux is really starting to feel good now I have tuned the optional D8 shocks to my liking. On dirt the car is very good and I think on astro it may even be better. We have a couple of weeks before the Coventry Electric National on July 8th so hopefully we will have at least a couple of dry days before then.
